Vision and Values

Vision

Our vision is to create a multi-generational, inclusive, and financially sustainable co housing community of 10 -12 carbon neutral homes that’s rooted in the land and projects at Bridge Farm. We aim to live lightly and sustainably, while focusing on friendship, mutual support, and meaningful connections with both land and people.

We are working towards a model which ensures that the scheme will be able to:

  1. Provide our members with stable housing that’s fit for purpose, designed with community and longevity in mind.
  2. Provide for local people (our members) who would not otherwise be able to afford to remain in their communities (through a % retained ownership by the co-op or a rent-to-buy finance model).
  3. Provide for local people (our members) who are renting, and unable to access or save for a deposit.
  4. Provide for local people (our members) in retirement age who wish to use capital finance to secure their future and invest in their community.
  5. Provide long term affordability in perpetuity through asset locking land and resale restrictions.
  6. Provide a fair and equitable means for members to release finances.

Our Values

At Little Bridges, our values guide the decision we make in the development stage and will shape the kind of co housing community we create:

  • Community and Connection – We believe in living easefully side by side, looking out for each other, sharing skills, and creating a place where friendships grow naturally.
  • Inclusiveness and Openness – People of all ages, cultures, life paths, and family arrangements are welcome. We are actively working to refine this while acknowledging traditional barriers to participation based on factors like class, race, and financial status.
  • Living Lightly on the Land – We’re committed to sustainability and protecting the natural world around us on the farm and surrounding green space.
  • Affordability and Fairness – We hope to create a scheme that is designed to be accessible, financially sustainable, and free from the pressures of the commercial housing market.
  • Balance of needs– We create spaces that encourage connection while respecting the need for privacy, personal preferences and space.

These values shape everything we do, however we acknowledge limitations and barriers beyond our control. We are learning as we go, and hope to shape our values and culture organically as our membership grows and changes.
